WHAT IS IT?

A functional mushroom, Turkey Tail is recognised for supporting immune defence and gut health.

In the 1970s, Japanese researchers developed PSK and PSP, two protein-bound polysaccharides from Turkey Tail, used alongside cancer therapies to enhance immune recovery.

More recently, Western research has focused on its prebiotic effects, showing Turkey Tail can help beneficial gut bacteria thrive.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

Turkey Tail is best known for supporting immune defence and gut health through unique compounds called PSK and PSP, protein-bound polysaccharides that train the immune system to respond more intelligently.
You can think of it as daily conditioning for your immune cells.

SPECIES AND STRAIN

Our production strain was isolated by Thomas Bell, just fifteen minutes from our grow site in the Yarra Valley, Victoria. This unique local origin is not a coincidence. The strain is perfectly adapted to the microclimate, humidity, and air composition of the region.

We believe this proximity, the mushroom being grown so close to where it was found, is a key reason we achieve yields and consistency rarely seen elsewhere in the world.

The strain is maintained under sterile culture conditions, periodically re-isolated to ensure purity and vigour, and used exclusively by MYCRO, keeping the genetics, and the story, exceptionally Australian.

HOW IT'S GROWN

MYCRO's Turkey Tail is cultivated in the Yarra Valley by Tom Bell.

Thriving on lignin-rich materials, Turkey Tail plays a vital role in the natural decomposition process that recycles forest matter into new life. We replicate that environment using a sterilised mix of Australian hardwood sawdust.

Once inoculated, each block is incubated as the mycelium weaves through the substrate, forming dense white mats that resemble the forest floor beneath fallen logs.

Unlike most other species, cultivated Turkey Tail performs better outdoors, instead of in controlled environments.

When the characteristic bands of blue, brown, and cream fully form, mushrooms are harvested, air-dried, and immediately processed for extraction to preserve the integrity of one of the most striking and reliable superfoods in the fungal kingdom.

HOW IT'S EXTRACTED

In our biotech lab, Dr Kyle Thomson and our team fractionate each harvested mushroom; that is, we divide it into distinct chemical groups (fractions) based on solubility, structure, and behavior.

Each fraction is then run through a bespoke extraction method. We carefully adjust: temperature, agitation, dilution, extraction time, and sonication settings, to extract and preserve each class of bioactive compounds without damage.

We avoid concentrating only one compound (e.g. beta-glucans). Instead, after the individual extractions, the fractions are recombined to mirror the natural “full-spectrum” balance found in the mushroom.

For stability and versatility, we use dual-extraction (water + alcohol). Some compounds (like triterpenoids, sterols, flavonoids) are not water-soluble and require alcohol to unlock them.

In our final blend, we maintain a 1:1 extract ratio (i.e. 1000 mg dual-extracted mushroom per mL).

To support consumer needs, we also offer alcohol-free versions. The alcohol is removed (via rotary evaporation), and the extract is stabilised with certified organic apple cider vinegar, instead of glycerin and synthetic preservatives.

HOW TO USE

At day’s end, when the air feels heavier and the to-do lists finally quiet, shake your Turkey Tail bottle. The deep tones waking briefly before they settle again.


Draw one millilitre into the dropper, a small act of closing the day with intention.
