How it is grown

Each mushroom in this bundle is cultivated through meticulous, sustainable methods that replicate its natural environment while maximising bioactive potential.

At our solar-powered farm in Ballarat, our outdoor site in the Yarra Valley, and at Australia’s first Cordyceps facility in Western Australia, the ideal environmental variables of light, airflow, humidity, and temperature are provided to each species.

Lion’s Mane grows on a sterilised blend of Australian hardwood sawdust and nitrogen-rich lupin hulls, mirroring its saprophytic nature in forests. Once colonised, the blocks are moved into cool, oxygen-rich fruiting rooms designed to evoke a shaded forest floor, where the mushroom is harvested at peak maturity.

Cordyceps militaris is cultivated on a vegan, organic nutrient broth and Australian brown rice matrix, replicating its unique life cycle from alpine insect hosts to modern controlled environments. Under precise oxygen and temperature conditions, dense networks of cordycepin-rich mycelium give rise to vibrant fruiting bodies, each batch fully traceable from spore to extract.

Reishi is slow-grown in a warm, humid environment that encourages the deep red-brown varnish characteristic of mature fruiting bodies. Once the edges curl inward, the mushrooms are harvested and carefully dried to preserve their complex chemistry, with the spent substrate composted back into new growth.

Turkey Tail, cultivated in the Yarra Valley, thrives on sterilised hardwood sawdust in semi-outdoor environments that mirror its forest-floor origins. When the signature bands of blue, brown, and cream emerge, it is harvested and air-dried to retain its full spectrum of bioactive compounds.

Together, these growing practices honour each mushroom’s natural ecology while upholding MYCRO’s commitment to renewable energy, regenerative materials, and scientific precision.

How it is extracted

In our biotech lab, Dr Kyle Thomson and our team fractionate each harvested mushroom; that is, we divide it into distinct chemical groups (fractions) based on solubility, structure, and behavior.

Each fraction is then run through a bespoke extraction method. We carefully adjust: temperature, agitation, dilution, extraction time, and sonication settings, to extract and preserve each class of bioactive compounds without damage.

We avoid concentrating only one compound (e.g. beta-glucans). Instead, after the individual extractions, the fractions are recombined to mirror the natural “full-spectrum” balance found in the mushroom.

For stability and versatility, we use dual-extraction (water + alcohol). Some compounds (like triterpenoids, sterols, flavonoids) are not water-soluble and require alcohol to unlock them.

In our final blend, we maintain a 1:1 extract ratio (i.e. 1000 mg dual-extracted mushroom per mL).

To support consumer needs, we also offer alcohol-free versions. The alcohol is removed (via rotary evaporation), and the extract is stabilised with certified organic apple cider vinegar, instead of glycerin and synthetic preservatives.

Species and strain

Each mushroom in this collection is cultivated from verified, research-backed species and strains chosen for their authenticity, potency, and consistency. MYCRO partners with leading mycologists, culture banks, and local experts to ensure every strain represents the truest expression of its species—scientifically validated and genetically pure.

Lion’s Mane (Hericium erinaceus)

Only Hericium erinaceus is true Lion’s Mane. While other Hericium species exist worldwide, only H. erinaceus has been clinically studied for its ability to stimulate nerve growth factor, support cognitive health, and promote neuroprotection. We exclusively cultivate H. erinaceus strains sourced from the world’s leading culture banks, ensuring genetic integrity and consistent bioactive output.

Cordyceps (Cordyceps militaris)

Only cultivated Cordyceps militaris produces the true fruiting body validated by modern research. Wild species such as Cordyceps sinensis cannot be reliably farmed, and native varieties like C. gunnii remain unproven. Our pure C. militarisstrains are bred from isolated spores collected across multiple global regions, combining genetic diversity with stable fruiting and high cordycepin content. Each strain undergoes microscopic and genetic verification before production, guaranteeing authenticity and potency in every batch.

Reishi (Ganoderma spp.)

“Reishi” refers to several closely related species within the Ganoderma genus, historically misclassified under G. lucidumand G. lingzhi. Today, modern science recognises that true potency is best defined not by name but by measurable biomarkers—particularly triterpenes and polysaccharides. We select domestically available Ganoderma strains with naturally high triterpenoid levels, verified through analytical testing and controlled cultivation. These strains produce the hallmark varnished, red-brown fruiting bodies associated with mature, bioactive Reishi.

Turkey Tail (Trametes versicolor)

Our production strain of Trametes versicolor was isolated by cultivator Thomas Bell just fifteen minutes from our Yarra Valley grow site. Perfectly adapted to the local microclimate, this native strain delivers exceptional yields and consistency, thriving in the same air and humidity from which it originated. Maintained under sterile culture conditions and periodically re-isolated to preserve purity and vigour, this strain is used exclusively by MYCRO—keeping the genetics, and the story, distinctly Australian.

How to use

Shake both your Lion’s Mane and Cordyceps bottles, one after the other.

Draw one millilitre from each into a glass of water, the two liquids meeting, swirling into a soft amber haze.

Drink it as the day begins, before coffee, before the rush. This is clean focus, built from biology, not stimulation.


Evening: calm and restoration.

As the light fades, shake your Reishi and Turkey Tail bottles.

Add one millilitre from each into a small glass of water or warm tea.
